We are all looking for ways to get out of the house in the Lake Minnetonka area this winter! Fresh air is good for the soul — not to mention it helps to get the wiggles out of the kids. So we put together a list to help you find fun things to do this winter with your family in Minnetonka, Hopkins, Wayzata, and Orono (or just a short drive away!) during these next few winter months in Minnesota:

1. Sled Dog Days at Birch's on the Lake
Shoot across snow-covered Long Lake behind a team of Siberian Huskies! Join Birch's before or after your ride for Brunch in the Brewhouse. January 11 & 18 and February 8, 15, & 22. $35/Person. Free for ages 3 and under. Purchase tickets in advance.
2. Artic Fever
Shorewood's Annual Arctic Fever provides free winter family fun for all ages and includes dog sled rides, horse drawn sleigh rides, snowshoeing, llamas and more! January 17 & 18. FREE.
3. Family Skate Day at Klapprich Park
A free family-friendly event at one of Wayzata's favorite parks! Activities include warm drinks, music, and free youth skate rentals. January 19. FREE.
The19th annual Hockey Day Minnesota at Valleyfair. Ticket includes entry into Valleyfair from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. Valleyfair will operate up to five family rides (weather dependent). See event site for game schedules. January 22-25. Tickets required, prices vary by day.

5. Plymouth Fire & Ice Winter Festival
This free event offers a variety of winter activities, including ice skating, sledding, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. Attendees can wander through the snow village or gather in a heated tent for activities such as BINGO and DJ-led music. February 1. FREE.
The largest, most unusual golf tournament held on a frozen lake. In addition to the ticketed golf tournament, there are several other "chilly" activities, including a chili cook-off, snowkiting and live music. February 8. FREE to attend.
7. Kids' Fest at Minnetonka Community Center
An afternoon of free family fun including dog sled rides, ice carving demonstrations, Kidsdance DJ, Bingo, Bonfires with S'mores and more! February 2. FREE.
8. Family Winter Adventure Day at Camp Fire Minnesota
Enjoy winter activities, including snowshoeing, crafts, sledding, and snow art, then warm up by the fire with s’mores! February 1. FREE.
9. 27th Annual Ice Harvesting Day at Richardson Nature Center
Experience the adventures of Minnesota's hardy ice harvesters. Event activities also include trying kicksledding, an ice rescue demonstration and campfires. January 25. FREE.
