By Beth Campbell, Publisher Minnetonka Macaroni Kid December 20, 2020

The holiday season is upon us! This means plenty of pies, cookies, pastries, turkey, stuffing, … you get the idea.  Not to worry, you can have your cake and eat it too, thanks to these quick tips for staying healthy during the holidays.

- Stay hydrated drink a glass of water before sitting down to a big meal.

- Try not to inhale your full plate of food. Slow down it takes about 20 minutes for your brain to tell you your stomach it's full.  Conversation will help slow you down.

- Find ways to encourage yourself and family off the couch.  Maybe, a stroll around the neighborhood to look at lights, sledding, ice skating or try an online dance or fitness class.

It's been a tough year so do whatever inspires you to get off the couch and get you body moving vs. depriving yourself of the holiday treats that bring you joy. Eat your pies, cookies, turkey, & stuffing whatever brings you joy and then get your body moving and burn those calories while doing something fun.  We have to look for the win-wins like having your cake and eating it too.

Wishing You a Healthy New Year!
